In the Bills' regular season finale and their first game since Hamlin's collapse, Nyheim Hines returned the opening kickoff for a touchdown with his teammate watching from the hospital. It was Buffalo's first kickoff return in three years and three months.

In the aftermath of Hamlin's traumatic injury, his teammates expressed their solidarity with the 24-year-old.

"You hurt for your brother. There's a shared grief," quarterback Josh Allen said the week after the incident. "... But to know Damar is doing OK, we heard that news this morning and there's nothing else that could bring our day down. We are happy for him and we can't wait to love on him the next chance we get to see him.

Hamlin was released from Buffalo General Medical Center on Wednesday, nine days after he collapsed on the field in Cincinnati, to continue his recovery at home. He was previously receiving treatment at University of Cincinnati Medical Center and was transferred to Buffalo on Jan. 9.

Stefon Diggs visited Hamlin in the hospital the night the medical emergency occurred. The game was postponed after the incident and was eventually canceled.

A week ago, the former Pitt standout expressed his gratitude to all of his supporters on social media.

"The Love has been overwhelming, but I’m thankful for every single person that prayed for me and reached out," he said. "We brung the world back together behind this. If you know me you know this only gone make me stronger. On a long road keep praying for me
