Vijay as always wears simplicity as his strong suit and he wears it well. What’s needed is that one film which will kickstart his new milestones. Will Leo be that film? Time will tell.
Vijay, the name has come to denote victory in epic proportions today. For an actor who primarily acts in only one regional language, Tamil, finds resonance worldwide.
This coveted position (which earlier was second only to Rajinikanth, and has now superseded him) Vijay holds is an enviable one but the journey to this point in his career has not been easy.
While his father, writer-director and producer SA Chandrashekar sort of chiseled Vijay’s early years (the 90s) in positioning him as a teenage heartthrob, it was Vijay’s own preference (choice of scripts) to work with a variety of filmmakers (specially in the late 90s to early 2000s) that made him a favourite of women and family audiences.
The jilted lover narrative (eg: Poove Unakaaga set the template for Vijay to be a modern-day Devdas sans the alcoholism), the remake dramas (eg: Priyamaanavale and Thullaadha Manamum Thullum and the hit pairing with Simran) and the runaway super-hit romantic film Kadhalukku Mariyathai, followed by the more fun and robust Kushi (with Jyotika) that earned Vijay hordes of female fans, who saw in him, their ideal Azhagiya Thamizh Magan.
The fans of actor Vijay are over joyed with the back to back updates on their favortie star's upcoming film with director Lokesh Kanagaraj, which is tentatively called 'Thalapathy 67' over the past few days. With the team currently shooting in Kashmir, the latest is that the film's title has been revealed to be 'Leo', with the tagline 'Bloody Sweet'. The film will be releasing in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu and Kannada on October 19, 2023.
The close to three minute promo shows Vijay making chocolates and on the other side making a sword while a lot of men in cars are closing him on his place. Looks like the film is an action packed entertainer with a lot of twists and turns.
The promo is quite similar to the one Lokesh Kanagaraj made for Kamal Haasan-starrer 'Vikram'. But going by the same concept, it can be understood that the promo is just a teaser for the film and nothing much of these visuals can be expected in the movie.
Interestingly, the promo doesn't reveal if the film is part of director Lokesh's Cinematic Universe (LCU). Guess the fans will have to wait a little longer for an official confirmation even though the presence of Geroge Maryan from 'Kaithi' and Vasanthi from 'Vikram' in the cast gives out that the film might be part of LCU.
The film's cast include Vijay, Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Priya Anand, Sandy, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Mansoor Ali Khan, Mysskin, Mathew Thomas, and Arjun Sarja. The film which went on floors on January 2 has music composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
